Day 1 - Westward bound

So of course it never snows in Virginia Beach. We never had snow growing up! But of course the night before we are scheduled to drive 3,000 miles, the entire mid-atlantic and eastern seaboard get a snowstorm! It actually started snowing last night - does that qualify as a "white Christmas"?

We decided to still venture out despite news and authorities warning all to stay of the roads (there was a good reason for this warning!) It took us 4 HOURS to drive 100 miles! In those 100 miles, we drove 30 mph or under and saw about 12 cars that had spun out - make that 2 cars and 10 SUVs.  It was a very white knuckle We got a break from the snow for a while, then once into WV, it started up again.

We decided to cut our drive short today. Our goal had been to get to Louisville, KY, but snow was our enemy today. Here's hoping tomorrow brings clear weather and even clearer roads!

At least my little gal, Charlotte, was content hanging out in the back seat. She slept most of the day, then would play with some of her toys. The repercussions of such an angel in the car all day is trying to burn the energy out her in our hotel room or outside where temp is only 14! Not fun!
